Cities and Memory Project Contribution Autumn 2024

I’m currently working with the Cities and Memory project to remix a field recording of a tram ride in Tallinn, Estonia. The original recording captures the journey from Telliskivi to Kanuti, featuring tram announcements, the sounds of doors opening and closing, and the movement of the tram itself.

For my remix, I focused on keeping the essence of the original recording intact while adding my own musical elements. I incorporated ambient sounds, a piano melody, and a steady drumbeat to give the piece a sense of consistency and flow. I also edited out some distracting background noise, like passengers coughing, to maintain the focus on the tram ride itself.

This process has been a great exercise in working with real-world sounds to create something new without losing the original context. I’m excited to see what other artists are doing for the project and how they’re reimagining sounds from around the world.

I won’t be publishing the final remix on my own channels until it’s released on Cities and Memory, which will likely be sometime in early 2025. Once it’s up on their platform, I’ll share it with everyone.
